Painting as Poetry
Plein air painting is to painting in general as poetry is to literature. With poetry, the writer strives to create an image in the reader's mind using the sparest of words, just the right words. The plein air painter works on site to capture a moment in time; with the ever-changing light, using the sparest of detail, and just the right brushstrokes. The results produce a looseness, and energy that with color and subject, convey the totality of the artist's message.
