I think of being a photographer as akin to being a time traveler. The suspension of time, as well as the passage of it, have been influential to my work. Over the last 20 years I have used a large format 8” by 10” view camera to create photographic series that approach time in different ways.
In collaboration with complete strangers, I create photographic portraits and tableaux that explore themes of melancholia, human vulnerability and lost love via a daily routine (Morning Bus), a yearly religious rite (Unto Dust), a seasonal display (County Fair), or the reflection of past landscapes on to present ones (Nashville).
My work has been exhibited in several solo shows in Los Angeles, Barcelona and the Cheekwood Museum in Nashville, TN as well as group exhibits in New York City, including Yossi Milo, James Danziger and Sasha Wolf Galleries. My work has also appeared regularly in advertising and magazines including TIME, Esquire, Fast Company, LIFE and many other publications.
