 Artist Statement

After years of exploring the artistic styles of realism, Impressionism, abstraction and design, I continue to investigate a variety of mediums including drawing, acrylics, watercolor, and pastels. My work encompasses a passage from one creative thought to the next- farm animals, flowers, landscapes, energetic child-like exploration of abstractions to line and design. I seek to find that serene place where my right brain engages, where creative thought emerges and gives birth as music guides my hand.

My experience is grounded in an art education collected in 3 universities as well extend instruction in art studio instruction, workshops and internship. I have exhibited work in art shows and galleries throughout the state. I am also a certified art instructor with 19 year of teaching experiences. I have won a variety of art awards throughout my career including CPS American Art Award, 2015, MCC First Place 2015 and Second Place 2019, VAC Second Place 2013, Munson Art - President's Award 2019. She was the founder and directed Art and Garden Tour for 7 years and now has been chosen to chair the Ashford Arts  Council. Nancy Cooke Bunnell is an award-winning pastel painter, who has exhibited throughout the state, including the Connecticut Pastel Society, the Monson Arts Council, Lyme Gallery and others. She is a certified art teacher through 3 CT Universities and has been teaching children and adults over 20 years, including the Community School of Arts at UConn, Vernon Art Center, and West Hartford Art League and the Glastonbury Arts Guild. Her media is pastel and acrylic painting. She was the founder and directed Art and Garden Tour for 7 years and now has been chosen to chair the Ashford Arts  Counci

In 2001 my dad and I designed a studio and gallery, a place always on exhibit and a studio to create.

Poetry, a piano waltz, a waterfall, a garden delight, a child’s voice influence how I express paint on a canvas.
.Instead I choose to investigate varied mediums, paint, and pastels, some even embellished with glitter and metallic markers for art sake as I waiver between realism, abstraction and design.

The children that I teach paint for the joy of creating with artistic abandonment. That is exactly where I want to be. . I want to focus on artistic development through child-like play with adult-like skills. When I am happily in my right mind, I am content, overflowing with joy.

Both my extensive art training through three universities and personal mentors and the honor of teaching adults and also children have built and reinforced my skills. I am grateful for the opportunity to have exhibited work in so many shows and galleries. My paintings have been purchased by many art supporters, and many awards have been bestowed. The awards are only a recognition, a small statement of a job well done, but are a culmination of years of a humble recognition of where this creative gift began and of my cheering squad of family, friends and art enthusiast.
